# Facebook account hacked: how to get it back

Meta's own advice starts in one place: facebook.com/hacked, ideally on a phone or computer you've used to log in to Facebook before.

Last updated: October 2026

## In short

### What should I do if my Facebook account was hacked?

Go to facebook.com/hacked on a device you've logged in with before. If the hacker changed your email, Facebook sends a message to the previous address with a link that reverses the change. If you can't reach your email or phone, use facebook.com/login/identify on a familiar device and choose the option for when you no longer have access.

## Signs your account was hacked

- Your profile picture changed.
- There are posts, comments or messages you didn't write.
- You can't log in, or your two-factor method, such as your authentication app, stops working.
- Facebook tells you someone tried to log in, or did, and it wasn't you.
- Facebook emails you that an email address or phone number was added or removed, or your password was changed, and it wasn't you.

## Step 1: start at facebook.com/hacked

Facebook recommends going to facebook.com/hacked, on a device you've used to log in before if you can. You can use it even if you're not sure the account was hacked.

If you're helping someone else, they should try the steps on a device they've used to log in to Facebook before.

## If the hacker changed your email

When an email address is changed, Facebook sends a message with a special link to the previous address. Clicking it reverses the change and helps secure your account. Facebook also advises checking that such an email really comes from Facebook before you act on it.

## If you can't reach your email or phone

First try any other phone number or email you may have forgotten is on the account, enter phone numbers with the country code, and ask your email provider whether they can get you back into your inbox. The next steps work best on a device you've used to log in before: your phone or computer, an old phone, or a family member's laptop.

1. On that device, go to facebook.com/login/identify.
2. Enter an email address or phone number that could be on the account. If that fails, try your name or username.
3. Choose “No longer have access to these?”. You may see “Forgot account?” or “Recover account” instead.
4. Follow the instructions. You may be asked for new contact details that have never been used on your Facebook account.
5. Confirm the account is yours, then set a new password that's easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess.

## If a Page you manage was taken over

If a hacker added themselves to your Page and removed you, Facebook says the best route is its form for hacked Pages. It aims to reply within a day, though some reviews take longer, and it can only act if it can confirm the Page was compromised.

You can only send the form while logged in and after recently losing access to the Page. If you can't log in, start at facebook.com/hacked first.

## After you get back in

1. In Settings, open Where you're logged in and log out of any device or location you don't recognize.
2. Review your Page and business portfolio and undo changes you didn't make.
3. Turn on Advanced Protection or take other steps to keep the account secure.
4. Watch out for scams and [phishing](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/glossary/#phishing), especially people offering to “help”.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I get my Facebook account back without my old email or phone?

Often, yes. On a device you've used before, go to facebook.com/login/identify, choose the option for when you no longer have access, and give new contact details that have never been used on the account. You'll then need to confirm the account is yours.

### Someone offers to unlock my Facebook account for a fee.

Facebook's recovery pages and its hacked Page form are free. People who offer recovery in DMs are a common scam: you can check their message with our [scam message checker](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/scam-message-checker/).

### Can you recover it for me?

We can't log in as you or skip Facebook's checks: recovery happens on your own device. We can look at your case for free and work through the official forms with you, for example for a hacked Page or ad account.
