A deactivated account comes back when you log in; a deleted one can only be saved within a short window. Last updated: October 2026 ## In short ### Can I get back an Instagram account I deleted? Only within the deletion window. Instagram permanently deletes the profile and all its information 30 days after the deletion request, and you can cancel the request before that deadline by logging back in. Instagram notes that the number of days you can cancel varies by region. After that, the information can't be retrieved. ## Deactivated or deleted? When you temporarily deactivate your profile, your photos, comments and likes are hidden until you reactivate it by logging back in. You can only deactivate once a week. When you delete it, your profile, photos, videos, comments, likes and followers are permanently removed. ## If you asked to delete it: log back in in time Instagram permanently deletes your profile and all your information 30 days after the deletion request. Until then, other people can't see your content, and you can cancel the request by logging back in to your Instagram account before the deadline. The number of days you can cancel varies by region, so don't wait. Once the window has passed, Instagram says the information can't be retrieved. It adds that completing the deletion can take up to 90 days; that is about removing the data, not extra time to change your mind. ## If you deactivated it Log back in to reactivate it. If your email or phone number was changed by someone else, start at instagram.com/hacked. ## Starting again with the same username After deletion you can sign up again with the same username, or add it to another profile, as long as nobody else has taken it. If the profile was removed for violating the Community Standards, you can't sign up again with the same username. ## Before you delete anything 1. Download a copy of your information first: once the profile is deleted, you can't use Instagram's export tool. 2. If you only need a break, deactivate instead of deleting. 3. Remember that Instagram can't delete a profile for you: you need to be able to log in to request deletion. ## Frequently asked questions ### Can Instagram restore my account after 30 days? Instagram says that after the 30 days your profile and all your information are permanently deleted and can't be retrieved. ### Was my account deleted, or disabled by Instagram? They are different. Deleting is something you request yourself.
