# Instagram Account Status: how to check restrictions and reach

Before guessing about a “shadowban” or a coming suspension, look at Account Status. It is Instagram's own view of what is wrong with an account.

Last updated: October 2026

## In short

### How do I check if my Instagram account is restricted?

Open Settings and find Account Status. It shows content removed for going against the Community Standards and features you can't use, and lets you request a review. Professional accounts can also see whether their content can be recommended.

## Where to find Account Status

In the app, open Settings from your profile and look for [Account Status](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/glossary/#account-status). On a computer, select More, then Settings, then Account Status under “More info and support”. Labels can change as Instagram updates the app.

## What each section means

- **Removed content:**posts, stories or comments removed for going against the Community Standards
-**Features you can't use:**what you are currently restricted from, with a way to resolve or [appeal](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/glossary/#appeal) it
-**Request a review:**ask Instagram to look again if you think a removal was wrong
-**Recommendations** (professional accounts): whether your content can be suggested in Explore, Reels and Feed

## Why it matters before a suspension

Instagram says repeated removals can lead to losing access to the account, and that in most cases you get a warning first. Account Status is where those removals show up, so it is worth checking before anything escalates.

## What about shadowbans?

“Shadowban” isn't an official term. What people usually notice is lower reach. For professional accounts, the clearest official signal is the recommendations section of Account Status. If everything there looks normal, lower reach may simply come from changes in content or audience.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does a removed post mean my account will be disabled?

Not necessarily. Instagram says accounts can lose access after repeated violations and that in most cases there is a warning first.

### Can I appeal from Account Status?

Yes. You can request a review of removed content and resolve some restrictions from there.

### Can I see Account Status if the account is already disabled?

Usually not, because you can't log in. A disabled account follows a different process; see our [guide to suspended accounts](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/instagram-account-suspended-what-to-do/).
