# Private photos leaked online: how to get them removed

If intimate images of you were shared without your consent, you are not to blame, and there are official routes to take them down. Here is what to do, in order.

Last updated: October 2026

## In short

### What should I do if my private photos were leaked?

Don't pay or engage with the person who shared them. Save the links and take screenshots, report the content to each platform, and ask Google to remove the results. StopNCII.org can help stop the images being re-shared on participating platforms.

## Step 1: Stay safe and keep evidence

1. Don't pay or negotiate with anyone threatening to share more.
2. Save every link and take dated screenshots before reporting.
3. Write down usernames and any messages you received.
4. Tell someone you trust; you don't have to handle this alone.

## Step 2: Report to the platforms

Every major platform has a reporting route for intimate images shared without consent, and these reports are treated as a priority. Use the report option on each post or account, or the platform's dedicated form.

## Step 3: Remove it from search and stop re-sharing

Google has an official request form for removing non-consensual intimate images from search results. StopNCII.org creates a digital fingerprint of your images on your own device, without uploading them, so participating platforms can block re-uploads. If you were under 18 in the images, Take It Down by NCMEC offers similar help.

## Step 4: Consider reporting it to the police

Sharing intimate images without consent, or threatening to do so, is a crime in many countries. A police report can also strengthen your requests to platforms.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will the person who posted it know I reported it?

Policy-based reports generally don't reveal who reported. Some legal requests can share your details, and we tell you in advance when that applies.

### Does removing it from Google delete the original page?

No. Google can remove the result from search, but the content also has to be removed from the site that hosts it.

### Should I pay if someone threatens to share more?

No. Paying rarely stops the threats. Keep the evidence, stop contact, and report it to the platform and the police.
