What we marked in the message

## What the checker looks for

Eight signs that show up again and again in recovery scams. One of them is enough to stop and think.

1. **Asks for your password**No legitimate recovery service or platform employee needs your password.
2.**Asks for a verification code**Anyone who asks for the code you just received is trying to take over your account.
3.**Wants upfront payment, crypto or gift cards**Payment in crypto or gift cards before anyone has looked at your case is a classic scam pattern.
4.**Claims to be platform staff or an insider**Instagram says it never contacts you about account security through Direct Messages, and no outsider can sell you access to platform staff.
5.**Promises a guaranteed or very fast result**The platform makes the final decision, so honest helpers can't guarantee an outcome or a timeframe.
6.**Pressures you to act now**Threats that your account will be deleted unless you act immediately are designed to stop you thinking.
7.**Contains a suspicious link**Shortened links and addresses that imitate a platform's name are common in phishing. Use the platform's own app or website instead.
8.**Uses a badge or copyright lure** Fake “blue badge” offers and “copyright violation” warnings are some of the most common phishing lures.

## If it looks like a scam

1. Don't reply and don't open any link in the message.
2. Never send a password, a code or any payment.
3. Report the account or email on the platform and block it.
