# YouTube channel terminated: what to do next

A terminated channel feels final, but the right first step depends on why it happened: policy strikes or a hacked account.

### Can I appeal a YouTube channel termination?

Yes. YouTube lets you appeal a termination through its official appeal form, linked from the termination email. If the channel was hacked before it was terminated, secure the Google Account that owns it first.

## First: was it strikes or a hack?

If you received [strike](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/glossary/#strike) s before the termination, the cause is policy-related: three [Community Guidelines](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/glossary/#guidelines) strikes within 90 days lead to termination. If the channel name changed, unknown videos or live streams appeared, or you lost access to your Google Account, the channel was most likely hijacked.

## If it was terminated for strikes

1. Read the termination email and note which policies were cited.
2. Gather facts that show the decision was wrong, such as the context of the flagged videos.
3. Submit the [appeal](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/glossary/#appeal) through YouTube's official form, once and accurately.
4. Don't open or use other channels while the termination is in place.

## If the channel was hacked

1. Recover the Google Account that owns the channel through Google's official account recovery.
2. Secure it: new password, [two-factor authentication](https://atakanrecoveryservices.com/glossary/#two-factor), remove unknown devices.
3. Use YouTube's help routes for hacked channels to deal with what the attacker changed.
4. Keep screenshots of the changes and any emails from YouTube.

## When to get help

Get help if your appeal was rejected but you have strong grounds, if you cannot recover the Google Account, or if the channel matters for your income.

### Can I start a new channel in the meantime?

No. YouTube's rules don't allow using or creating other channels while a termination is in place.

### Do copyright strikes count too?

Yes. Three active copyright strikes also lead to termination. If you have the rights, some claims can be resolved with the claimant or through a counter notification.

### Will my videos come back?

Often the channel can be returned to its earlier state. Whether every video comes back depends on what happened.
