In short
How can I tell if an account recovery service is a scam?
A legitimate service never asks for your password or verification codes, never claims insider access to a platform and never guarantees a result. A request for crypto or gift-card payment upfront is a strong warning sign.
The seven warning signs
- 1They contact you first, in comments or DMs, right after you post about your problem.
- 2They ask for your password or the code you just received.
- 3They claim to work for Meta, TikTok or Google, or to have an insider there.
- 4They guarantee a result, or an unlock within hours.
- 5They want payment in crypto or gift cards before looking at your case.
- 6They show screenshots of “recovered” accounts but give you no way to verify who they are.
- 7They offer to get into accounts that are not yours.
Why these scams work
When an account is gone, people feel urgency and will try almost anything. Scammers use that urgency and copy the language of real support teams. Some even run fake support profiles that use the platform's logo.
If you already paid or shared a code
- Change your passwords and turn on two-factor authentication on all your accounts
- Check the recovery settings and connected apps of your email account
- Contact your bank or card provider about the payment
- Report the scam account to the platform
- Stop all contact and do not pay again, even if they promise a refund
Frequently asked questions
Are all paid recovery services scams?
No. Legitimate services help you use the platform's official processes and are clear about what they can't do. The warning signs above are what separate them from scams.
Can a platform employee unlock my account for money?
No. Anyone selling insider unlocks is not telling the truth, and paying them puts your account and your money at risk.
Someone contacted me claiming to be from your service. What should I do?
Our only channels are listed on our contact page, and we never ask for passwords or codes. If in doubt, contact us through those channels to check.
