Where do I report a hacked or fake account in Türkiye?
Report it to the platform first. For a criminal complaint, the Turkish National Police's Cybercrime Department (EGM) says to write and sign a petition and hand it in person to the police station responsible for where the crime happened, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office or a Cybercrime Branch office; for crimes prosecuted on complaint, the victim has to apply personally. Filing a cybercrime complaint in Türkiye
The EGM Cybercrime Department's FAQ describes these steps, for example when someone opens a fake account in your name:
- Report the account or content to the platform where it is.
- Write a petition describing the crime and sign it.
- Hand it in person to the police station responsible for where the crime happened, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office (Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı) for that place, or a Cybercrime Branch office (Siber Suçlarla Mücadele Şube Müdürlüğü).
- Take the signed form yourself: EGM says not to scan it and send it by email. For crimes prosecuted on complaint, the victim has to apply personally.
Content that violates your personal rights
Under Article 9 of Law No. 5651, people whose personal rights are violated by online content can ask the content provider, or the hosting provider if the content provider can't be reached, to remove it, or apply directly to a criminal judgeship of peace (sulh ceza hakimliği) to have access blocked. EGM says the providers must answer such requests within 24 hours at the latest.
Separately, the İhbar Web hotline at ihbarweb.org.tr takes reports about the crimes listed in Article 8 of Law No. 5651, such as sexual abuse of children, obscenity and illegal betting.
Reporting and recovery are separate
Reporting a crime and recovering an account are two different steps: the platform decides about the account through its own process. Start with the platform's official recovery pages, and report to the authorities when money was taken, you're being blackmailed or someone is using your identity to deceive others. If money was stolen or you're being threatened, also report it to the police.
