Riot account hacked: recover your VALORANT or League of Legends account

Riot recovers compromised accounts through its own Account Recovery Tool and support tickets. Here's the order to do things in, based on Riot's support pages.

In short

How do I recover a hacked Riot account?

Use Riot's Account Recovery Tool at recovery.riotgames.com. Riot says it's the fastest way to get your account back, and that if it doesn't work for any reason you should submit a ticket. If Riot emailed you that it secured your account, use the Recover & Secure Account option in that email first.

When Riot says to recover the account

  • You can't log in because you forgot your username or password
  • You no longer have access to your account's email address
  • Your account may have been hacked, or your details were changed without your permission
  • You got an Unusual Login Activity email from noreply@mail.accounts.riotgames.com or noreply@umail.accounts.riotgames.com about a login you don't recognize

Recover the account: step by step

  1. 1If Riot emailed you that it secured your account, use the Recover & Secure Account option in that email first.
  2. 2Otherwise open the Account Recovery Tool at recovery.riotgames.com, typing the address yourself.
  3. 3If the tool doesn't work for any reason, submit a ticket to Riot Player Support.
  4. 4Once you're back in, set a new password you haven't used for any other account or service.

After you're back in

  1. 1Check your email address, linked accounts, multi-factor authentication settings and purchases, as Riot advises.
  2. 2Turn on multi-factor authentication: anyone signing in then has to verify through Riot Mobile or your account's email.
  3. 3Secure your email account too: a new password, multi-factor authentication and a check for changes you don't recognize.
  4. 4If you don't know how the account was compromised, run a full malware scan on your device.

What Riot can fix after a compromise

  • Revert an unauthorized Summoner name change in League of Legends
  • Investigate unauthorized charges made while the account was out of your hands
  • Reverse certain account changes or purchases linked to the compromise, when Riot secures the account itself

Locked out, but not hacked?

Riot may ask you to confirm your account information, for example if the account doesn't meet the age requirements for your region. In the ticket, Riot asks for details such as a valid email address, your date of birth, the date and the city, province or country where the account was created, and a transaction ID from a Riot receipt.

If the account still doesn't match the Terms of Service, Riot says it will be set to be deleted in 30 days.

What doesn't work

  • Recovering a deleted account: Riot says once an account is deleted, it's gone forever
  • Recovering a permanently banned account
  • Logging in anywhere other than authenticate.riotgames.com, for example on a “free RP” or skin offer

Frequently asked questions

Can a deleted Riot account be recovered?

No. Riot says Account Recovery can't restore deleted accounts. If you requested the deletion yourself, Riot's deletion FAQ explains how to stop it during the 30-day grace period.

The password reset link in Riot's email expired.

Riot says the reset link in an Unusual Login Activity email only lasts 24 hours. Reset your password from Riot's own password reset page instead, and use the Account Recovery Tool if the account is already compromised.

My Google, Apple or Facebook sign-in was hacked too.

Recover that account first: see our guides for Google, Apple and Facebook. When you confirm your account information, Riot asks for the email tied to your social sign-in.

Can you recover my Riot account for me?

No one outside Riot can sign in for you, and we never ask for your password. Recovery runs through Riot's tool and tickets, which you submit. We can help you prepare the details Riot asks for.
