Where to report a hacked account or online fraud, country by country

Reporting and recovering are two different things: the platform decides about your account, the police investigate the crime. This table lists the official reporting channels in 12 countries, each taken from a government source.

In short

Where do I report a hacked account?

Report it in your country while you start the platform's own recovery, because a police report doesn't give an account back. For example: the FBI's IC3 in the US, Report Fraud in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, 17Cyber in France, the police Onlinewache in Germany, INCIBE's 017 helpline in Spain, or a signed petition handed in to the police or prosecutor in Türkiye. Keep the platform's emails and screenshots as evidence.

Report and recover in parallel

  1. 1Start the platform's own recovery right away: only the platform can give the account back. All forms are on our official recovery links page.
  2. 2If money was taken, call your bank through its official number first.
  3. 3Collect evidence: the account name and profile link, the platform's emails or texts about changes you didn't make (with date and time), screenshots of messages sent in your name, and receipts of any payments.
  4. 4Report it through your country's official channel in the table below.

What a report can and can't do

A report records the crime and lets the authorities investigate. It does not restore your account: only the platform does that, through its own process. Report it in any case when money was taken, when you are being blackmailed or when someone is using your identity. In France, Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr notes that some banks ask for proof of the complaint before refunding fraudulent card payments.

Watch out for “help” that comes to you

  • Strangers who offer to get your account or money back for an upfront fee: the Dutch Fraudehelpdesk calls this “recovery fraud”
  • Calls or texts claiming to be the police or a government agency and asking for codes or payments
  • Anyone asking for your password or a login code, whatever they say they are

How these offers work: account recovery scams.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a police report to recover my account?

No. Platforms decide through their own recovery process, and a report doesn't change that. Report it anyway if money was taken, you're being blackmailed or your identity is being used.

My country isn't in the table.

Contact your local police or national cybercrime unit, and start the platform's recovery through our official recovery links. Our country pages cover Türkiye, Germany, the UK, the US, the UAE, Qatar and Finland.

Can you file the report for me?

No: a criminal report is made by the victim. We help with the platform side, recovering Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other accounts through official processes only, and we never ask for passwords or codes.
