In short
How do I get my hacked Spotify account back?
If you can still log in: reset your password in a private window, choose Sign out everywhere on your account page, and remove access for connected apps. If you can't log in, contact Spotify: it says it can help secure the account and restore anything lost.
Signs of a hacked Spotify account
- Your email address changed
- Playlists added or lost
- Music playing without your control
- Your subscription changed, or an unknown Facebook account connected
- Emails about logins you don't recognize, or a password that no longer works
Still have access? Secure it
- 1Reset your password and open the reset link in a private or incognito window. Choose a strong password you haven't used before.
- 2Change the password of any service linked to the account too, such as your email, Facebook or Apple.
- 3On your account page, select Sign out everywhere. Spotify says it can take up to an hour to take effect.
- 4Under Manage apps, remove access for connected third-party apps; you can reconnect them later.
- 5In the desktop app's settings, check Social for a connected Facebook account and disconnect it if it isn't yours.
Can't access your account?
Get in touch with Spotify: it says it can help secure the account and restore anything lost. Have a screenshot of a Spotify receipt or bank statement ready, hiding the full card number, expiry date and 3-digit code.
A password reset link goes to the account's email address, so you need access to it. If your email was changed without your permission, Spotify points you to its hacked-account help.
Lost playlists?
If you can still access your account, you can recover deleted playlists from your account page. If you can't, Spotify says it can help restore what was lost.
What Spotify never asks for by email
- Your payment information or password
- A Social Security or tax identification number
- Payment through a third party such as Western Union
- Downloading anything from an email
Frequently asked questions
Is the Spotify email I got real?
Spotify says an email is suspicious if the sender address doesn't end in @spotify.com, or if you're simply not sure. Don't click anything: forward it to spoof@spotify.com and delete it. If you already clicked, reset your password.
Can I turn off Spotify's new-login emails?
No. Spotify says that for security you can't turn off emails about account activity such as new logins.
Were my payment details stolen?
Spotify says your financial and security details are never compromised in these takeovers. If you typed card details into a fake page, contact your bank.
